Shirley Jennings - Sandwich Maker/Bookkeeper
Shirley grew up in beautiful upstate New York, moving to St. Augustine in 1972. In 1995, she began attending Good News, along with her soon-to-be husband, Terry, who has attended Good News since the very first week of its existence. They have shepherded the Flock of Ages small group for eleven years.
In April 2007, Shirley retired from the Department of Military Affairs, where her most recent position had been as State Personnel Officer. After her retirement, she began praying about how she could use her gifts to serve God. Being a behind-the-scenes type of person and an organizer, she wanted to find a mission where she could effectively serve in that capacity. When she heard about the Sandwich Mission, she thought, “Well, I can certainly make sandwiches.” Soon, she and some other members of the Flock of Ages began providing sandwiches once a month.
Last year, Shirley learned that the bookkeeper position for the Sandwich Mission was open, and since she had some experience, she volunteered to serve as bookkeeper. She really enjoys filling this niche and seeing how God blesses the Sandwich Mission. She’s noticed that every time donations seem to dwindle, something big – really big – happens to fill the coffers with funds to be used to spread the Good News through the Sandwich Mission.
