Bible study and.....Beer?
Hello, Praise God for another Awesome week handing out sandwiches for Him. This week was really something else. First of All I would like to thank Don Guernon and Wendy’s Restaurants for donating the sandwiches and Chips this week. This was a real help to me and I want to thank and Praise God for that blessing. That was not the only reason that this was a big week. This week I went directly to our study area and handed out all the lunches from there. The word is out and people now know where to get fed both physically and spiritually on Thursdays. We had quite a study this week. We started with a verse in 2 Timothy and it really took off from there. We were discussing how, if you are a believer, you need to live the life as well as just proclaiming Christ with your mouth. This quickly went into practical application when a rather vocal member of the group decided he was going to pull out a beer and drink it during our study, sitting right next to a lady’s teenage son. At that point it was on. I didn’t even have the opportunity to say a thing before 4 or 5 people started to tell him what they thought of what he was about to do. I immediately was scurring to look up the passage:
Corinthians 10:31-33
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.
When I could get a word in I had everyone turn to that passage. I read it and it really just gave fuel in the form of the Word to those 4 or 5 people. It got a little out of hand at that point so we brought it back together in prayer and just prayed that the Word that was spoken there today would just penetrate and pierce that hearts that hear it. I see spiritual warfare going on all around but I know by us being there and speaking the Word each week, lives are changing.
After we ended John John was helping me pick up the Bibles and he was apologizing for what had happened. I told him not to worry that God was in control and God was going to use today to further the kingdom. I also told him not to worry that I would be back next week just like normal. It was then that he handed me a beat up old leather covered bible, he was real short in his explanation but he just told me that he wanted me to have it. I can’t tell you when the last time I saw anything quite so beautiful as that Old Bible. And if that weren’t enough I had a young man come up to me and give me a few verses that I should meditate over the next time I get the chance. It getting easier to see that what we are doing is contagious, and I could not be more pleased.
God is so big and so awesome. He never ceases to overwhelm me. I thank you all for your prayers and ask for your continued prayer. I had to write this blog entry earlier than normal just because what God does is so good, I just could not wait to share it with everyone. For His Glory, Mitch
