Prayer is so powerful… it stops traffic.
Hello all. I want to Praise God for this sandwich ministry and the lives that it is touching. It so amazing to me how each week can be so different. This week several behind the scenes things happened before Thursday. First off the now infamous sandwich curse has struck again claiming another person who just wanted to get involved. Ed Purtill from Good News here in St. Augustine was planning to go this week and on Wednesday his back went out on him. He says that it happens to him about twice a year and that he was really disappointed that he could not make it. I will ask you all to pray for Ed and his recovery as well as to keep in prayer for all the other people who are willing to step out of there comfort zone to help this ministry out. There is nothing Satan would rather do than trip up people on their way to furthering the kingdom of God. So we must use the weapon that God gave to us, His Word, to pray for these people that are trying to boldly serve Him.
So in God’s true character He takes this minor setback and creates an open door. One of the Small Groups here at Good News volunteered to make the lunches this week, and Tara Guernon from that group was able to go with me to hand them out. This was big in two ways. The first is the obvious that this is a huge help to do this for me. The second in my opinion is almost as big. Next week I will be out of town at my cousin’s wedding, and for the first time I will not be able to go and hand out sandwiches. So the big news is that Tara, her Husband Don, and the leader of the small group David Beck are going to be doing everything next week while I am not here. They will also have the bonus of Don Guernon and the Wendy’s restaurants making the lunches next week. Needless to say everything is in good hands while I am away. So Tara went this week to see firsthand how everything goes so that next week she is ready.
So that is all the behind the scenes, now on to the sandwiches and study. We had a big crowd waiting for us this week. A good mix of familiar faces and new faces. (Love new faces.) Now we have this study right next to the road. Its’ not a real busy road but cars come by fairly often as we are having our study. We gathered around and joined hands to open up in prayer (with a lot of people makes a pretty big circle crossing the road) I looked over and saw a car coming up. “First prayer then bring your chair” is what I heard Rene say to somebody today. We started to pray, and much to my surprise the car just waited until we were finished and then moved on. Now, I guess we can all say that we have been in prayer that stops traffic. There is a lot more participation in the group also, its almost hard to get a word in sometimes. It truly is amazing the light that is shining on that street.
I have a lot of things I want to ask you to pray for this week. I ask that you pray for Ed and all the people that are trying to step and really be active servants of God, not only in this ministry but everywhere. I want you to specifically pray for Tara, Don, David and their whole small group as they undertake this ministry next week. I also want you to pray for the people in the “sandwich small group that meets by the street.” Also if you have choice Eat at Wendy’s when you can. They has been a good and faithful friend to the sandwich ministry, and if they prosper the sandwich ministry is helped. I don’t like to plug things but I think it is really important to recognize Wendy’s for what they have done.
This week, for the first time I will be just like you, praying for the people going out doing the sandwiches. I think it will be weird for me, oh well it allows God to open another door. For His Glory, Mitch
