nourishment

Hello all. Praise God for He is Good all the time. Handing out these sandwiches is always different and always wonderful. Yesterday was no exception. Ed Purtill went with me. As from earlier you may have read that he tried to go before but was unable. So yesterday Ed got his chance. On our first stop we ran into John John, not in his usual place at the study but down by where he works. I would like you to pray for John John, his brother is having surgery and John John is trying to get some transportation there and back across the state to be with him. We then stopped at a home I always stop at and as we were giving the sandwiches the lady was on the phone and handed it to me and said “its for you.” This was a little surreal but hey when you are doing God’s work you just have to roll with it. The lady on the phone asked if we could come by where she lived, she told me where it was, and I was pretty confident I knew where it was. So off we went. Along the way I ran into people I had not seen in a while because lately I have headed to the study and not been able to get out and around as much as I used to. This really helped because I was able to tell these people where I had been, that I had not stopped doing sandwiches and that a study had formed and they were more than welcome to come by and join in. So back in the car to see if I can find the lady on the phone. We see a handful of people that fit the description so we stop and start talking and give them some lunches. Turns out Ed had been the teacher of this one lady’s son. So we talked awhile, I asked “this might sound weird but did I talk to you on the phone?” Lets just say the look on her face told me no she hadn’t. Well back on our quest to find the woman from the phone. As we pull out I see Glenda (see last 7-15-06 blog) she says she is on the way to her aunt’s house the one who is on dialysis that she takes the lunch to each week. So we follow her over to Aunt Gussie’s and get to meet her and talk to her and find out how the sandwiches really are a blessing to her and that the Lord is really looking out for her needs through these sandwiches. We leave there and back on our quest. We drove and looked but I ran out places that I thought it could be, so on to our study. Ed and I said that when in the coming weeks I face the lady on the phone that I could tell her that although I did not get her a sandwich that day, but because of her call we handed out dozens of  sandwiches, reaching out to people as we looked. I was a little worried because I was really low on lunches heading to the study. We turned down the drive and did not see any of our familiar study group. There were people that were playing dominos and we were able to give them lunch, but there was not to be a study today. We ended up back by Glenda’s house and saw her and her son. We talked for quite a while and she asked if we had seen her sister that day and I said I had not. She started to ask if I could go by there, and her son very politely said that if I would give the lunches to him, he would take them to her for me. There was a real air of pride in him in having the opportunity to help “the sandwich man” out. So I gladly gave him the bags and let him do his part in God’s work that day. So that was pretty much the end of the day. Kind of a retro Thursday, just like how it used to be before the study. I really feel it was a blessing because we got to open up a lot of doors and further grow some relationships. My prayer is as always that those verses of God’s Word contained in those lunches find a home in someones’ heart, because that is really what this is all about. Loving our neighbor by providing physical and spiritual nourishment to those that hunger, and to equip both the servants and the served to be made disciples of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

I really want to stop and Thank the Beck’s small group. They have been faithful to this sandwich ministry by making the lunches for this week as well as committing to making the lunches every 3rd Thursday of each month. This is a huge blessing for this ministry. I really want to thank everyone else that has been in touch with me about helping out. I have not forgotten about any of you. God is in the middle of dealing with me on how to make the most of the opportunities that He sends. He is constantly trying to grow me in my faith to set out and trust him. I want to continue to ask for your prayers for this ministry, as well as to ask for prayers for myself to guide this ministry and be obedient to however God asks me to step out in faith. For His glory, Mitch
